In addition to the LPC course and the CPE/GDL for non-law students,
there are a number of skills necessary to be successful as a solicitor.
Academic ability is a high priority with most employers expecting a 2.1
as a minimum. You may be considered with a 2.2 if you can
demonstrate additional skills and experience, but this is
uncommon. Due to the range of people solicitors are expected to
work with, good interpersonal skills are needed, along with good
written and communication skills. Solicitors require strong legal
and commercial awareness, but perhaps most importantly is demonstrating
a sense of responsibility and integrity.
